Movember's 2024 Oil Rig Rumble: A record-breaking year of havin' fun and doin' good

The legends of the 2024 Oil Rig Rumble

The Movember Oil Rig Rumble once again united Canada’s oil, gas, and energy industry for a month of drilling into key men’s health issues, community building, and hairy competition. The 2024 challenge had a record of over 90 companies and 1400 individuals come together and raise over CA$1.40M. These funds will support groundbreaking men’s health research and programs across mental health and suicide prevention, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.

Congratulations to SECURE for winning the Oil Rig Rumble for the 3rd year in a row and surpassing the CA$1M mark raised since 2020. A special shoutout to SECURE’s Rene Amirault who was the top individual fundraiser raising over CA$45,000!

While SECURE was the winner, the Oil Rig Rumble leaderboard was competitive all month long with many companies having record-setting years. Below are the top companies, and you can check out the complete final standings here.

Why men's health matters to the industry

With over 75% of the industry being male, the connection to Movember is a “no brainer” for many participating companies. While the funds raised will have a huge impact, the men’s health education and purposeful conservations had during the hairy month will contribute to men in the industry living healthier, happier, and longer lives.

Greg Filipchuk, VP of Operations at SECURE, said: “The Oil Rig Rumble is more than a fundraiser – it’s a platform for energy workers to come together, support each other, and ultimately save lives. As the need for mental wellness grows, so too must our commitment to providing support and awareness for all workers on the job.”

Greg once again spearheaded the coordination of SECURE’s Oil Rig Rumble winning campaign. “At SECURE, we are promoting Movember to reinforce awareness to our employees of the importance of mental wellness and the support we have in place for them, ” said Filipchuk.
