What a Mo starts: the conversations our fundraisers didn’t expect to have

We asked 5,000 Mo Bros and Mo Sisters about the benefits of taking part in Movember. Here’s what they told us.
Half of those who fundraised for Movember at work, school, uni or their club say it changed how people talked about health.
Fundraisers tell us taking part in Movember sparks conversations, and it’s what Movember was created for. But it’s hard to measure the micro impacts Movember has…so we asked the people who are best placed to tell us: our loyal Mo Bros and Mo Sisters.
We surveyed more than 5,000 Movember participants across our 6 key markets (Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland) in 2025. After the campaign, more than 1,500 of them told us what had changed. Of the people who fundraised at work, school, university, or at a club, half of them said it changed the health conversations there.
Not only are these all places where men spend their time, but they’re also places where talking openly about health topics can be a tricky conversation to have. A moustache gives people a reason to ask a question. And once someone has asked a question, the next one is easier.
And it doesn’t stop there. Fewer than half of fundraisers (45.2%) signed up hoping to open up conversations with the boys and men in their life, but 78% found themselves doing it anyway. Sometimes those conversations go further than anyone expects.
“My friend got tested early because of a conversation that started following a Movember campaign. It was operable due to being caught early. It saved his life.”

Grow a Mo, move, host or Mo your own way. Whatever you choose, taking part in Movember could change more than you expect.
Most people (89%) sign up to raise awareness of men’s health. About half (52.4%) signed up wanting a sense of purpose and doing good. After the campaign, 97% said they’d found it.
The moustache can make Movember look like a light-hearted bit of fun, but the people taking part tell a different story; 9 in 10 participants have lived experience of mental health issues, either their own or someone close to them. For many, the Mo is personal. That may be partly why the conversations they start can go deeper than you’d expect.
The survey also found the longer people had been involved, the more likely they were to say Movember had changed their life. Those who had fundraised for 11 years or more were 5 times more likely to say so than first-year fundraisers.
These findings come from fundraisers themselves, describing what they noticed in their own lives, workplaces and clubs. The study was run by the Movember Institute of Men’s Health and approved by an independent ethics committee. Everyone who took part chose to, and there was no comparison group, so it can’t tell us how much of the change was down to Movember alone. But no one is better placed to tell us about the conversations Movember starts, than the incredible people who take part.
You don’t need a big network or a fundraising plan. You need 30 days and at least one way to take part…
Grow a moustache, Move, Host or Mo Your Own Way. Raise money and start conversations. Every bit you raise and every chat helps to stop men dying too young.
