How to keep your Movember team motivated all month

A quick shoutout in the team chat can be just what you need to keep momentum going.
Week one? Everyone’s keen.
Fresh pages. Fresh moustaches. Big intentions.
Then suddenly it’s mid-November, three people are flying, two have gone suspiciously quiet, and someone is still sitting on $0.
Totally normal.
As captain, you don’t need to keep the team hyped every single day. You just need to create a few good reasons for people to keep moving.
Give everyone something to chase
A clear team goal gives people a reason to stay involved.
That might be:
- A fundraising target
- A donor goal
- A Move challenge
- A team-size goal
Then celebrate the milestones along the way.
If you’re chasing $5,000, make some noise at $1,000. Then $2,500. Then rally everyone for the finish.
Progress is motivating — especially when the team can see it.
Create moments to rally around
Don’t expect everyone to stay switched on for 30 straight days.
Instead, create a few moments where the whole team makes a push together.
Try:
- A kickoff challenge
- A team lunch or event
- A fundraising leaderboard
- A matching day
- A Move challenge
- A mid-month push
- A final-week rally
Keep it simple: tell people what’s happening, when it’s happening and what you want them to do.
Celebrate the small wins
Don’t only celebrate whoever raises the most.
Shout out the teammate who:
- Got their first donation
- Recruited someone new
- Shared their page
- Hit a fundraising milestone
- Finished their Move challenge
Even a quick team-chat message can help:
“Big shoutout to Alex for getting off zero today 👏”
It recognises the effort and gives everyone else a gentle reminder that they can get moving too.
Make the next step easy
“Keep fundraising” isn’t much of a game plan.
Give people one simple action instead.
For example:
This week: Ask three people directly for a donation.
Today: Share your page and one sentence about why you’re doing Movember.
This weekend: Message someone who supported you last year.
Small actions are easier to start — and momentum usually follows.
Nudge people personally
If someone hasn’t really got going, skip the public call-out.
Send them a quick message instead:
“Hey mate — thanks again for joining the team. We’re making a push this week. Even sending your page to three people would be a huge help.”
Keep it supportive.
Your job is to make the next step easier — not turn into the team’s fundraising hall monitor.
Keep showing up
Your team will take cues from you.
Share your own updates. Join the challenges. Make your asks. Celebrate other people.
You don’t need to be the biggest fundraiser on the team.
You just need to keep showing up.
And if the energy dips halfway through the month? That’s normal.
Pick one thing. Create a small challenge. Celebrate a win. Give everyone an easy next step.
Then keep it moving.
