Our Motivation

My name is Jason, I am the Senior Coordinator of Men's Health, Wellbeing & Counselling here at La Trobe University. I am humbled to be team captain of the 'La Trobe MoBros & Sisters' student and staff combined team.

It is a privilege to be a part of a team of La Trobe champions. Men & women who are staff, students, alumni, stakeholders each dedicated to coming together and supporting men's mental and physical health.

Why are we forming this team for Movember?

The suicide rate in Australia is alarming high with 8 suicides a day and 6 of these being men. Movember is aiming to reduce the rate of male suicide by 25% by 2030. We want to help Movember achieve this target....and we need your help.

Many young men struggle with mental health and life challenges. But once guys make that courageous move to open up and seek support the struggle becomes less and they get back on the road toward finding their strength again.

How can you help the team? You can sprout a Mo, Move for Movember or Mo your own way. Your Mo-efforts will help the team with donations to Movember. But you can join even if you don't want to get into fundraising. You can seek out talking points in November that puts the spotlight on Men's mental health.

Let's get together to support Movember and help continue the conversation . Join us by signing up to the "La Trobe MoBros & Sisters" student and staff team.

Congratulations La Trobe Mobros and Sisters,
It has been a most successful Movember. Some brilliant coin has been raised, Mo’s have been grown, KM’s have been cycled and very importantly conversations about men’s mental health have been had.
Thank you all for being a part of the La Trobe team. I really admire your support and dedication to this very important cause.
In the meantime, keep up the message and continue this important conversation all the way to Movember 2023.
Together we can ensure “No man is left behind”.
Cheers, Jason

Hey Mobros & Sisters,
We are in our final week (one week to Mo) and the finishing line is in sight. We are doing a great job raising some coin, spreading the word and covering some pretty decent KM's (well done Courtney).
Keep up the fabulous work.
This week I leave you with "7 facts men need to know". Some brilliant stats to add to your conversations.
Cheers,
Jason

Hey team,

We are now at the half way point of Movember and the fundraising grows, just like my Mo, and the cycling efforts continue to get some impressive KM’s going. Nice work.

Movember tip for this week: The theme for this years ‘International Men’s Day’ (19th November) is mateship. We know men live longer on average when they identify as having mates in their world. Loneliness has a real impact on men and their wellbeing. Connecting with your mates or encouraging men to connect can literally be a life saver.

Keep up the wonderful work and conversations La Trobe Mobros and sisters!

Cheers, Jason

PS: A big shout out to Courtney for her fantastic "Move for Movember" Cycling efforts!!
For those of us doing the Mo growing I hope things are not too itchy or prickly. I am finding conditioner to be very helpful.

Hey team,

Week one of Movember is almost done and our group is growing (welcome to new members) and we are kicking some goals on the fundraising front.

Movember tip of the week. When you are out there having conversations about your Movember participation you might run into the question (or have some questions yourself) as to how do I start a conversation with a bro who may not being traveling so well?

The “ALEC” model is a great way to formulate your response. Check out “Movember Conversations”. Check it out at Conversations.Movember.com.

Cheers, Jason

I have been experiencing difficulties and challenges with mental health for the past five years. It is critical that treatments for men's mental health and well-being are widely available, accessible, and effective. I wish to contribute my relatively small donation to helping men reach out and articulate their struggles.
