My motivation

Hi, my name is Craig, and I’d love to raise money with my work friends for the reasons mentioned below. Thank you for reading — and I hope we can have some fun along the way!

Having struggled with my own mental health, and with family members who have had — and still have — their own difficulties, I know firsthand how awful it can be. It’s not something you can simply “smile through,” “move on from,” or “just stop feeling.” If it were that easy, so many people wouldn’t still be struggling.

My aim is to spread awareness that men’s health and mental health are real issues — not something to be brushed under the carpet because “you’re a man” or “you should be fine.” It’s okay not to be okay, and it’s okay to talk about it.

It’s a struggle many face in silence because they feel they have no one to talk to — even when they might. You speak, and sometimes you get mocked. You don’t speak, and you get told to “speak up.”

That’s one reason for doing this. The other is more personal — my dad went through prostate cancer in the last few years, and it was awful to see. Watching someone so full of life have it drained away by cancer was heartbreaking, especially when it came out of nowhere. Thankfully, he’s doing well now.

I’ve also had a great time growing this ridiculous moustache that I’m sure the late, great Freddie Mercury would be proud of!
