Welcome everyone to my Movember page. If you've made it this far, I'm assuming you want to hear my story.
I'm here to raise awareness for men's mental health, something that is a huge problem in the UK but isn't spoken about enough. In the UK, the main killer for men is suicide which was a major shock to hear to me, which led me to do something about this and began to research. 12 men every day take their own life in the UK, that's 360 men a month. This needs to change. Because of this I will be completing 12 km every day through the month of November. Come rain or shine I will do whatever it takes to complete the distance whether it be running, walking or crawling.
The reason for this challenge is to raise awareness and encourage people to talk and seek help. There's a stigma that men can't talk and should bottle it up inside but this simply isn't the case. Men should be able to talk about their problems without feeling any less masculine. As this is such a big problem, we need to speak up and reach out to someone, there is help out there. Of course this is much easier said than done, but by taking the first step we are one step closer to stopping this stigma.
For me personally, and I'm you will all agree, I would rather have my mate, brother, anyone close to me cry on my shoulder than have to attend his funeral a few weeks later. For anyone who had to experience this, this is for you. For anyone facing mental health issues, this is for you. For anyone who has a weight on their shoulders and wants this weight to be relieved, this is for you. Remember, you are not alone and there is always someone who will listen and help. By all costs this stigma must be removed and I want to do everything I can to help this cause.
If you are someone who wants to help this cause, any support will be warmly welcomed and would be greatly appreciated. Whether that be through donations or words of encouragement, it will be welcomed with warm arms and means more than you know.
If you've made it this far, thank you for listening and lets get talking!
